| Creating a Short Cut. |
|
A shortcut is just an icon with
some special commands attachted to it, so it will go out look for what
you want to do, and then run your program.
Short cuts can be to drive letter, network drives, folders, programs, files, and even a particular place in a file. To Start creating a new short cut, you can Right Click on an
open space on your desktop (or inside a folder).
This will pop up a little menu: By highlighting the New option, you can choose a new folder, file, or shortcut. If you pick the shortcut, you will be walked through a series of questions
that will help you in creating that little icon and the item it starts.

A second way of creating short-cuts:
1. Open up My Computer, or the Explorer, |
![]() |
Note: You can rename a shortcut by:
1. highlighting the icon,If you are looking for more icons, there are some files included with Windows that hold alot of icons:2. clicking on the name3. and typing in a name you want to give it.
If you used the properties of the old window icons (to see what icon to show, program to run, or what directory to start in) then highlighting an icon and Right Clicking on it, then picking properties - you will see a whole new look. The options are still pretty much the same, but the look of changing, or setting properties is much improved. Clicking on the Short Cut tab at the top of the box will give you a page with the
"Change Icon" button. Clicking on this will give you an option to pick different icons.
