Changing the Appearance of Windows 95
web-friend >> help >> win9x >>Windows Appearance...

The quickest way to get to your Window colors and screen savers is to RIGHT click on an open space of the your desktop screen. Choose the Properties options of the "pop-up menu".

Clicking on the Appearance tab will show you these options:

You will notice at the top of the window there are some "Tabs" marked Screen Saver, Background, Appearance, etc.. Moving your mouse to these tabs and clicking on them will show you different "Pages" with different options that you can choose from.

The Screen Saver tab is pretty self explanatory. The Appearance tab allows you to change the colors and fonts of you windows. The Plus! tab is an additional software program by Microsoft that adds additional sounds, screen savers, and other options. The Settings tab allows you to screen size (resolution) and number of colors you see.

ScreenScan (McAfee anti-virus) and Refresh Rate (monitor) are system options added with various software programs and hardware drivers.  These should be left alone until you have a little experience with 95.

The first steps many people will take is to set screen savers, change colors, etc. to make Windows 95 look the way you want it to. In Windows 3.1 you used the control panel to change these options. Besides the "quick left click - properties" way of getting to this screen, you can also acces these setting through the Control Panel.  When you click the start button you will notice that there is an item marked

Settings

- highlight this and you will see the Control Panel. You can highlight it and click to see a list of what items you can change.

If you choose the display you will see something like the picture here. (Some items will vary, depending upon the compter itsself, and items that are installed.

The Control Panel is the place to look first when you want to change your Windows 95 - 98 settings.
