Ashland Chemical Co. - 11/95 – 3/99: Provided on-call support 24-7
Network Administrator: support, trouble-shooting, set-ups, upgrades, installs, maintenance.
Duties: All computer related research, support, documentation, training, configuration (hard and soft), set-ups, diagnostics, repairs, and upgrades: (memory, hard drives, scanners, modems, printers, CD-ROM’s, CAD stations, workstations, etc.). Research, document, and implement all site Y2K compliance issues (computer and software), and coordinate with corporate IT department conversion from Banyan Vines to NT WAN networking. I performed over 75 upgrades / installs to Windows 95; installing required memory, network cards, services, and protocols (TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, VIP, NetBEUI, NetBIOS). I configured various client workstations to access various LAN and WAN servers, and the Internet via the Ashland Inc. proxy server firewall. I replaced hardware as needed, installed networked versions of various databases and programs, and provide users with applications and development tools to assist in productivity. I was responsible for data transfer and/or conversion from VAX Ethernet to Banyan Token Ring, during the Ashland / Aristech split. I often performed file conversions: ASCII/ANSI, Lotus, Binary, Word Perfect, Fixed Length, and Comma/tab delimited, Paradox, dBase, Excel, Access, Lotus 123, graphic and data files, etc., as well as data recovery on corrupted media. I have done some practical programming (Access, VB, and batch). I managed many computer related projects, and resolved all computer / printer / network related problems, including solutions with Beta version and proprietary software. I maintained File Server integrity; including archiving files, virus scanning and removal, drive and directory structure, software installation and debugging, server backup and restore, and setting up CD-ROM servers, and other member servers on both the Banyan and NT networks. I managed user profiles, services, groups, lists, and print services on Banyan Vines, set up new users to access the LAN, set file share permissions, user access levels, file and directory attributes and permissions, Lotus Notes clients, and coordinated the conversion from Banyan to NT. I also performed quarterly internal audits in operations as a certified ISO 9000 - 9002 auditor, and occasionally filled in for personnel in accounts payable / invoicing. I was responsible for many of the database design, setup and maintenance chores (repairs, reports, queries, etc.), using various front-end packages. I assisted users by providing help desk support, documentation, and assistance in productive use of software. I also initiated and published the plants first “On-line” Intranet newsletter.
Self - Employed (Charles Davis Enterprises) -- 1988 - Present:
Computer Consultant specializing in IBM PCs. My work includes web page design and hosting, SEO consulting, training others in the use of computers, setting up systems and software for their particular needs, consultations, desktop publishing, tutoring others in the use of PC’s & software. Duties included MIS scanner control; file transfer, barcode tracking, report generation, Automotive Information Systems; DCS uploads, fuel, oil, and mileage data entry, daily reconciliation, fuel pump readings, and report approval. Duties also include: Print Center, and ending Volume totals for package pick-up, Customer Counter and trackables. I also set-up, scanned and sorted packages on the Air Recovery Belt. Other duties performed: Revenue Auditing, print the Daily Dispatch Reports, shut down and start the DCS uploads and downloads of driver DCS boards, data entry of time cards and package handling and print daily Operation reports.
Temporary Services -- 1991-1995:
My temporary work included training others in the use of computers, setting up systems and software for their particular needs, consultations, desktop publishing, data entry, tutoring others in the use of PC’s & software, and general office duties:
Metpath: accounts receivable research / recovery, account posting, data integration, third-party billing (medical field).
Bayer: Printshop work including binding, shipping, cutting, etc.
Genix: Data outsourcing and warehousing company for large corporations. I worked in the "Pit" which required library search and retrieval of tape backups on Multiple Virtual Systems, including a robotic BU chamber. Ran JCL batches for backup and recovery of data, cleaning of 3070 systems, and obsolete reel-to-reel systems. Monitored data transfers, packaged tapes for shipment to off-site locations, and notified support staff in rare 'Abend' events. I was also requested for a database conversion project using FoxPro several years after I left the backup center.
PROPERTY MANAGEMENT -- 1989-1994:
Remodeled and manage and my parents' estate while their employment required that they work in Washington, D.C., and since they have retired and spend much of their time in the south. Attended Community College of Allegheny County and University of Pittsburgh (1 semester).
MISCELLANEOUS -- 1989-1994:
Attended school to prepare for a computer specialist career. Developed computer programs and trained business owners in computer use (e.g., Expressions Forever, Inc., Birmingham, Alabama; Dansco, Southview, Pennsylvania; S & F Lawncare, Imperial, Pennsylvania; B & D Auto Service, Imperial Pennsylvania). Reviewed office management systems, revised operations, and trained personnel to conduct office business. Managed my own business of Computer Service, including all phases of consultation, system set-ups, personnel training, and application development, including data base set-ups, accounting, spreadsheets, billing, and report generation.
